the bottom of the base is felted to protect your table 

the artist designed it to be used shadeless and it was delivered with a regular blue household bulb. over the years we switched to a green bulb.

if your design sense calls for a shade there are many you will find available with harp to fit on a bulb or you may prefer to use a larger globe style bulb.
