I believe it to be fiberglass

it is a  gunmetal gray finish  

i have included photos  of some minor knicks in finish.    It has been used as is in displays where hat, scarf and/or placement have concealed these small flaws.  My experience with similar pieces is that a quality spray paint  application will bring this finish to an ad new state of any color.
